AHC: Soviets convincingly fake a moon landing

Just as it says on the tin. Have the Soviets fake a landing on the moon, with everyone (including the US) being none the wiser.

ASB. One of the things that disproves "US faked it" claims is that Soviets would find out and expose whole thing. Why wouldn't reverse be true as well?

and the question is, would the russians want to win that way?
because there always be that bugging feeling of 'we didn't really do it' with the leadership that is in the know.
i think there probably would be a feeling of "we don't need to fake this, we can do it for real"

Its easier for the Soviets to actually do it than to fake it in such way that it could convince the world....

And actually doing might be even cheaper. Leastly for Americans would have been more expensive fake whole landing than do that really.

This is OTL. In exchange for secret grain payments, they dressed actors up in American space suits and faked the whole thing, broadcasting it via proxies, duh.

You're kicked for promoting conspiracy theory's:p

The problem is they would have to launch a rocket in the first place. The only rocket which could actually do that is the N1, which had a habit of blowing up. Most rockets don't blow up as part of the launch process. And that's just one of the many difficulties which such a idea would face

Perhaps they could fly a real module to the moon without actual cosmonauts on it, and then fake the human aspect somehow?

Well, the rocket doesn't have to return, does it? Just report an atmospheric anomaly at that exact moment. :D

Alternatively, the Americans simply just have to launch an empty Saturn V from Cape Canaveral, and let the Russians take it from there. :p
