AHC: South Africa annexes South-West Africa

Just a little challenge I thought I'd throw out there.

With a POD of just after the First World War (when the former German South-West Africa became a League of Nations Mandate of South Africa), make it so that South-West Africa/Namibia becomes an official part of South Africa, as many in South Africa intended (to the point that SWA was represented in South Africa's parliament for most of the 20th century).
Bonus points if the Apartheid Era still occurs in some form.

The UK really need enthusiast SA support in the war. So it is probably as simple as the South Africans demanding it at the first in a polite way. It would be merely tinker with the internal thought process of a few South African leaders. Not really that hard a POD.

... except for one littl thing! SWA is full of Germans, not Afrikaaners.

Louis Botha (the first president after 1899-1902) was apparntly not keen on having more whites into the republic with even less of a natural affiliation to the republic.

The whites in SWA would then have got the vote and it could have spelt more trouble. Would they have voted NP? probably not.

I think there is more to this little challenge, and I shall be diving into my library for some facts.

Well South Africa had a knack for creating sub-states without any say in central government. Namibia/South-West Africa has a fair share of natural resources, so I don't see the German population being a massive hurdle to South African interest.

"Simplest" solution would be no Woodrow Wilson, avoid the League of Nations. I imagine then German colonies would simply be handed out instead of turned into mandates, this avoiding any doubts of South Africa's legitimacy to rule later down the line. Of course that doesn't stop separatist groups forming at a later date.

Southwest Africa had more Afrikaners than Germans, in 1970 only 1/3 of the Europeans were Germans, 10% were English and the majority Afrikaners.

Even during the German period there were Afrikaners there, forming about 1/4th of the European population.
