AHC: Sino-Japanese Alliance

In such a situation, there is a chance for both Japan and China ending as allies of the Axis Powers. Since Mao was supported by Stalin and the Soviet Union, Chiang Kai-shek will gravitate towards the opposite side. Japan will do as they did in OTL, ally with Germany and Italy. This is not likely to affect the final result of the World War. But the end of Chiang Kai-shek and his Regime would come a few years early. U.S.A. wouldn't get a friendly state of Nationalist China in Taiwan. This would have made many butterflies to fly in East Asia.

Wow. Hate to rain on your parade, but Japan allying with China and vv, requires one of them to renounce the claims on territory they hold almost sacred.

Arguably, the last chance to pull this off is destroyed in 1937 and arguably in 1931, after Mukden. Either side to back off clashes with oriental concept of 'face'. To have any chance of pulling this off would require CCP to be a lot stronger, and only way to have them stronger is for USSR to support them more. Eventually, once Mao is defeated, 'alliance' between Chiang and Japanese will last for several more minutes.
