AHC: Simultaneous American and Japanese Economic Wanks

With the earliest PoDs after WWII, but preferably the latest possible, improve the economic power of both the US and Japan without damaging each other (i.e. Japan still takes over the automobile industry, and thrives in information technology). It can be through anyway, whether trade deals, movies, corporations, or anything else. If they can together make up 40 or 50 percent of the world GDP by the present day, that would be great.

Japan things was so atypical, mostly because russia/SU skewered economical policies and priorities and the same with china pre Deng, America is a continent itself, if they slowed down or outright forbidden outsourcing and follow a more nativist/nationalist/protecionist policy their shock might be lower, but japan? when a second USA(China, an unify EU) emerges they will collapse even worse that otl

This already happened in OTL. In 1995 world GDP was around $27 trillion. US + Japan combined was $13.11 trillion.

This was around the 40-50% of world GDP the OP was looking for.

To continue this to the present day, you would have to prevent the rise of China (perhaps it stays Maoist/Socialist) and somehow stop the rise of other developing countries from cutting into the US and Japan's share of world GDP, or have the US and Japan grow faster than these developing countries.

Perhaps Communists or other dictatorial regimes retain power over most of the developing world and persistantly mismanage them? A longer Cold War could help this.

How could this happen?
