AHC: Save the United Kingdom of Portugal Brazil and the Algarves

My thinking is that if Joao returns in 1818 or 1817, leaving behind Pedro as regent in Brazil
Ah, yes, at this point if João goes Pedro would likely stay, of course.
I suppose that João will grudgingly drag himself to a boat if a counselor rightfully shouts in João's ears "GO TO LISBON NOW OR ALL HELL IS GONNA BREAK LOOSE".

Portugal doesn't degenerate into the crisis of 20/21. Without that crisis, life doesn't look bleak for Pedro/Brazil getting rechained. Pedro doesn't agitate for independence. The union remains. What happens down the road is a good question. It's possible that a Joao in control in Portugal sets up the situation so that a crown presence is always in both countries.

Wherever Pedro is, he'll love to rule his realm with nothing on his way but his father across the Atlantic as his nominal and permissive overlord.

If Pedro is in Brazil at the time of João's demise the capital of the UKPBA will devolve to Rio but he'll make the same mistake in trusting Portugal to Miguel. Miguel however won't have the balls to usurp Pedro under these circumstances but something wicked will be forged, no doubt.

If Pedro is in Portugal, can't say if Miguel will move in with his brother in the meantime or if he's left in Brazil with dad to train to be Brazil's regent, getting a baptism of fire in the Cisplatine.

Anyhow, nice chat. These Iberian threads rarely go anywhere. Most Alt Historians are more focused on discussing for the millionth time how to have Germany win WW1 or having the confederacy winning Gettysburg!
Oh yes, several possibilities were brought up, it's possibly a record. :)
