AHC:Save Rap Music

Ah.Before 2000.........Rap is a Genre,so Unique,and Distinctive.

Now,After 2000,Rap have becoming SO Mainstream, and their Lyrics mostly just about sex, sex, and women(Although eminem is one of those who didnt use it.)The Music now even mish-mashed with techno.

Now,AH.Com.My Challenge to you guys is to Save and Preserve The Rap Music Genre The Way It was, just like on Tupac's Era.

no, just no. Rap nostalgia is the worst.

Rap is as good now as it was then, sure it's infested bad music but there are a lot of great post 2000 rap music.

and, rap/hip hop has always been partly about parties and women (and sex) check the Sugurhill era. Rapper's delight is just a long boasting which shares more with today's hiphop than many old school lovers will admit.

Uh, that's about five years before your designated year you've used, and actually that is when it began truly taking the X-15 ride downhill.

Parties and women are one thing. Narcissism, misogyny and hyper-violence is a different match entirely.

If you are really equate Rapper's Delight with some of the pablum out now then I don't know what to tell you, because Rapper's Delight was a fun party record. You are stretching trying to make more than an ancestral link between that is some of the out and out crap that's on the store shelves these days.

woo, that ain't the connection I'm doing. I'm just tired of the cliché that old school hip hop is per definition political and today's hip hop is misogynist shit. Hip Hop started out as jokey songs about scoring women, like Rapper's delight, and continued to use it as a theme.

I think people overstate the lack of quality in today's hip hop. Sure a lot of it is bad, but so was it in 90s and 80s too. Maybe more is bad today, I don't know, but we have enough good hiphop to listen too.

Hip hop has been mish-mashed with techno/electro since Planet Rock in 1982.

There's a lot of good rap around. It's just about finding it. I prefer to listen to underground stuff, and I think you should have a look at Immortal Technique, Ill Bill, Vinnie Paz, R.A. The Rugged Man, Sabac Red, Slaine and La Coka Nostra.

That is very fair and very true. Really, more responsibility lies with the consumers and the fan bases in my mind. In the early day of hip-hop, because it was more underground and world of mouth, less mediocre fare got through the gates. You had to "show and prove" in the parties, the battles and on the street to build the credibility. The ethic was different.

Now, a lot of quality stuff is still underground because unfortunately, the "target metric demographic" isn't buying/downloading it in many cases. You get the fare you are willing to support. That's how it works.

We have a lot of good hip hop to listen to, we've always had good hip hop. Every genre goes through this longing for the past etc.

And people really need to stop bashing techno/electronica seriously.

A thought: If you don't like what you're hearing...make some hip hop of your own...I did :)

You're kidding right? mainstream rap is garbage right now. Kanye, Lil' Wayne, Drake, every single one of them.

Just stick to Eminem and underground hip hop.

haha, no.

Kanye has some production values and perfect samples but lacks in the rap department, so good not fantastic but definitely not garbage. There's a lot of good hiphop nowadays, especially in the midstream of hiphop like the roots later albums, jay electronica etctera.

His production is extremely bad, boring and uncreative. But that's not the point because we're talking about his rapping (which is awful) it doesn't matter what other things he does.

I tend to call post-2000 rap music "glam rap", since it is going through the same phase as Hair Metal in the 80s

I personally just like N.W.A. for my rap fix. Though I'd dare say once Ice-Cube left they became just as misogynistic as modern rap. Eazy-E did have a helluva voice, though.

I'm more into the Public Enemy/Ice-T school (The latter even set up a band called bodycount.)

Figure out a way to scuttle Boyz n the Hood and New Jack City or make them huge critical/box office stinkers so Ice Cube and Ice T don't start on the road to full-time actors. Alternately, have Friday turn into a bomb so Cube doesn't get the comedy bug and maintains a balance between hip hop and hip hop-driven dramatic works.

There's no point in trying to butterfly Tupac's death. He seemed destined to die young, and if someone else didn't do it, he would have done it himself.
