Just curious, what amounts to “polite society” if the upper classes all over Europe had been heavily engaged in gambling and cards games were an accepted and popular social activity?

There's a sort of convenience that sandwiches have which few other foods match. So, I dunno, make wraps more popular so a similarly convenient food achieves the same amount of popularity.
