AHC: San Francisco Bay area not important...

Gold not discovered would stiffle it, but not kill it. Given the nice harbor there, it's impossible to make the area not important. At least in a strategic and commercial sense. Actually, in the first couple of editions of AHN, it was LA that wasn't important, with much larger population centers in San Fransisco and San Diego.

Mexico holds onto All of the territory it lost to America in 1848 *minus Texas*.

Texan rebellion still happens, I know its less likely without a USA, but meh.

Mexico descends into extended civil war with Britain grabbing the Oregon country.

Mexico stabilizes, then descends into a Somalia-like situation in the mid 20th century.
