AHC: Saab Viggen: NATO's Thunderbolt

FTFY

The strike variant the AJ 37, was operational in -71, The fighter variant JA 37 in -79.
The AJS modification came in -92 giving the AJ 37, SF 37 (photo-recon) and SH 37 (maritme recon) limited multi-role capabilites.

The key word is limited. The first true multirole Saab is the Grippen. Unless you want to count the Saab MFI

Never said otherwise, and please quit the misspelling. Once is fair, but to continue after it's been pointed out is just annoying.

Oh, so that was what it was all about. Fair enough. Never did get why people are so protective of spelling in multinational forums, but I'll try to avoid more incidents of friendly p doubling;)

Just looks amusing, like if someone were to spell it 'Tigger' when referring to the tank and not the fictional character.

SAAB wins the "Deal of a Century" with the SAAB 37E

Did the Swedes even attempt to sell to NATO or WarPac? I had thought that they only tried selling to neutral, democratic countries (which is a pretty restricted market :( )

And, as pointed out, the US refused to sell US engines for Viggens to India.

Second answered by first! Denmark did consider the Viggen when buying new aircraft for 1980 (arms deal of the century - once again)
