AHC: Russians on the Rhine

With a POD any time after January 1, 1900, have a Russian (or Soviet) army reach the east bank of the Rhine.

Aaaaaand.....Go! :)

D-Day fails on June 20th due to a unexpected and violent storm rocking the channel. In early 1945 as the Germans essentially abandon the occupation of the country, the resistance, led by the communists, overthrows the the pitiful forces remaining before the allies can launch a second invasion. Stalin tells the regime to make life difficult for the allies, who are now scrambling to get as many troops over the channel as possible. After Berlin falls, German resistance collapses and the Soviets speedily occupy the entire country whilst the small amount of allied troops are still bogged down in France.

Germany hangs on into 1919, but ultimately falls due to the joint Franco-Anglo-American offensive against the Hindenberg Line, with Entente tanks playing an important role. As part of this force, the Legion Russe is among several units to end up crossing the Rhine.
:)

after a failing economic policy following ww1 and econonomic troubles in all of its trading partners the netherlands go communist!

You two are too clever for your own good :p

Trotsky or some other internationalist heads Soviet Union. National Socialists never take power in Germany.

Soviets march on Poland late thirties. Germany invades to grab the Corridor.

Skirmishes spiral out of control. Germany and Soviet Union at war, Britain and France prop up Germany with materiel, but hesitate to send soldiers.

The Soviet high water mark of the war is the Rhine, after which they are pushed back to Poland, and a cold peace is reached.

Das ist die Donau, nicht der Rhein, mein Herr ;)

What a stupid mistake.... How do these things happen?

So embarrassed

Edit: To remedy myself, the original plan for dividing Germany post WW2 called for a joint adminisration of the entire country. If the Allies stick to that, then you would have the Red Army on the Rhein alongside the western allies.

If we're talking about the GERMAN part of the Rhine, there are 3 main possibilities (within practicality):

1. In the Interwar period, the Russians beat the crap out of Poland and then take Germany (unlikely due to lack of power projection and the rest of the world will likely jump in to save Germany)

2. D-Day never happens, The Russians have to push to the Rhine, and the Allies jump in only to get France. The Russians occupy the entirety of Germany, albeit at the cost of many lives (they are unlikely to go through with attacking Japan, because they're already severely weakened.

3. The Communists reach win the war of the streets in Germany. Germany and Russia occupy Poland and the French invade the Rhineland. The Russians are asked to intervene on the behalf of the Germans. The Russians fight off the French (somehow?).
