AHC: Rock stays popular in the 2010s

Honestly, Rock dosen't really need to be popular.
This...

Rock had already matured and had occupied every sonic niche that was possible. Any attempts to redefine rock and take it in a new creative direction would result in something that was definitely not rock ie: emo-rap or pop.

Rock as a genre is incredibly limiting when it comes to creativity. Same with all genres based around live performance. We live in an era where you can make an infinite variety of sounds on a computer and composers are freed from the physical constraints imposed by playing instruments. So it was only natural for rock to die once household studio setups became cheaper and easier to use than guitars and drums. This is why hip hop and edm are dominant now.

From my own personal experience it costs around $0 to become a hip hop or edm producer. Everyone has a computer and you can pirate all the necessary software. You dont need to save money to buy a guitar, or buy an amp or get studio time. You dont need to deal with band mates with different tastes in music or worry about being physically capable of playing an instrument.

The fact that rock managed to live past the early 90s is amazing. In any other timeline it wouldve imploded much sooner unless you completely prevent the proliferation of computers.
