Your challenge, would you choose to accept it, is to have the all-evil Rick Santorum reelected Senator in 2006, with a POD no earlier than January 1, 2004. Bonus if Santorum is the Republican presidential nominee in 2008.

Given the times of the 2006 election, that's borderline ASB. It might be easier to give George W. Bush a third term.
The situation of the times was that Robert P. Casey Jr. was an empty suit running on his daddy's name and reputation, while Santorum was an empty suit running on George W. Bush's name and reputation --How did that work out for the Republicans in general in 2006?
Both men are Religious Catholics, and social conservatives. Basically, Casey would have to have been caught in bed with either a live boy or dead girl to lose favor.
Even then, he'd have had to go further to up Santorum on that score Dead Baby
Santorum was out of favor with many conservatives with the endorsement of Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey, and Casey was peeling away much of Santorum's social conservative base.
The Republican Establishment in Pennsylvania pretty much sat on their hands because both candidates were pro life. Had Santorum been pro choice, the Republican Establishment would have much more supportive of Santorum. --see Elsie Hillman
The only way that Santorum really stands a chance is to have President Bush with longer 'coat tails', and that would be a point of departure long before the election. Even then it is going to be a fight for Santorum. In many ways, the man is his own worst enemy.
