Challenge:
Have a revolution succeed and bring down the Roman Empire between 1 CE and 306 CE (i.e. pre-Constantine). The result must be the substitution of the principate with a political system in which at least 10 % of the population are involved in political decision-making, and a major socio-economic change: either a great land reform, or the abolition of slavery, or something of similar proportions. A unified new Roman state or multiple successor states, where the above-mentioned conditions are met in at least half the former Empire`s territory, are both acceptable solutions.
Feel free to elaborate on the future of such a polity.
Bonus points if the revolution is led by people from various ethnic and religious backgrounds.
