AHC: Restore the Hereditary Monarchy in the PLC

As it says in the title. Any of the kings between Stefan Bathory and Stanislas II Poniatowski can be the one to push the choice through the Sejm. Several kings tried to restore the vivente rege AFAIK (particularly the Vasas). Granted the Sejm is gonna dig their heels in against it.

Personally, I think the only kings who might've been able to achieve it were either Wladyslaw IV or perhaps Jan III Sobieski, riding on a wave of support after his defeat of the Turks at Vienna (perhaps a little ASB); I think one of the Saxon kings did attempt to create a sort of hereditary monarchy also, but lost interest in the idea after it was rejected by the Sejm. Also, AFAIK, Maria Augusta of Saxony (dau. of Elector Friedrich August III) was named heiress to the throne of Poland should the male-line Wettins die out by the 179? Constitution. I think due to that Josef Poniatowski wanted to marry her.

Good luck with the challenge.

The monarchy was hereditary until Sigismund II August. When he died without heirs, the Union of Lublin introduced the elective monarchy. AFAIK the Vasas attempted to reverse it.

Did they ever have a (technically) hereditary monarchy? If so, when did it become elective? If not, it cant be 'restored'.

Actually the monarchy was technically elective prior to Sigismund but usually restricted to members of the dynasty/relatives of the previous king

Lithuania used hereditary rules and Polish kings weren't always the Lithuanian Grand Dukes but always from the Jagailian line until it goes extinct
