AHC: Religion of Eosphoros-Lucifer

In the Lux Invicta mod for Crusader Kings II, there is a massive myriad of different religions, ancient, medieval or hypothetical, to worship in-game. One of these that struck out to me (and forms the basis of this thread) is one Mithraic-offshoot religion known as Eosphorism. I won't get too deep into this hypothetical religion, but it basically worships Lucifer as the bastion of light against Christians and Jews alike. (Some info can be found here.)
Now what could make this hypothetical religion a reality and widespread power in history?

Maybe more focus on the idea that Lucifer (I assume this is Lucier =/= Satan?) gave mankind free-will in opposition to God wanting us all to be his slaves? The idea could evolve so that people believe Lucifer essentially "freed" us from God's overbearing need for control. This sets Lucifer up as a "good" character, and the Christian/Jewish god as an evil one.

This fits in very well with the Gnostic idea of the true "good" god who is worthy of worship being different from the evil demiurge that actually created the world, though it's certainly a question how to form a religion that identifies them as Lucifer and Jehovah respectively.

I think it was supposed to be a syncretic mix of Gnosticism with the Mithras cult. Another major factor is that in the Lux Invicta timeline the Eastern Roman Empire took a strongly anti-Christian turn and was largely successful in suppressing it, which probably played a significant role in ensuring militantly anti-Christian/Jewish religions like Eosphorosism arose and got support.

It wouldn't be that hard as quite a few Gnostic faiths did tend to regard the Jewish god as being evil, and Jerusalem as an unholy city. Combine this with the aforementioned anti-Christianity in the ERE and its not implausible that some of the religions that emerged would attempt to appropriate Satan and recast him as the good guy to justify the suppression of Christianity and Judaism.

Interesting is the concept of the Yazidi faith.
