AHC: Ramp Up Global Warming

Here's a bit of a dystopic challenge: increase the rate and strength of global warming, pollution and environmental damage.
Hum... not sure if its really possible on the global warming front

For pollution & environmental damage side, it would be easy if you have no WWI & WWII (probably ASBish) with Europe becoming more and more industrialised add in no controls and your pretty much there, especially as British investment may help the rest of the planet create its own pollution

You have to kill Greenpeace (yay!) and other environmentalists, if they can not be successfully sidelined you may get a big backlash against the pollution.

China industrializes in the Song or Ming dynasty, the sheer amount of pollution sent into the atmosphere from a couple extra centuries of industrial development will do it.

Well this is after 1900 discussion section :p

...but that would get you the pollution etc, but what about the warming?

Burning coal and oil and natural gas = CO2 = global warming
on a lesser scale, advances in agriculture = population growth and increased meat consumption = methane = global warming.

Change the way Europe dealt with it's colonies, and the way the US treated the post-colonial international economic framework, so that the Global South industrializes alongside the mother country, which was more or less what Japan did with her colonies.

Global warming catastrophe.

How to ramp up Global Warming? Simply India and China never went socialist in any form and have their recent economic development far earlier......

Oh and no nuclear power plant would help too.

This is the best way. You also want tax laws to discourage public transit, low/no gas taxes, & no OPEC (so oil prices stay low), which appears to need you to butterfly the creation of Israel (at a minimum, butterfly the causes of the '73 oil shock).

The thing is, even if you don't get *Greenpeace, you do get a recognition there's a problem: it's not like nobody noticed the smog in L.A. Or the acid rain. So you're going to get people trying to do something about it.

Massive deforestation, even more than OTL, in Brazil, Burma, & Thailand would be really good, too.

You could increase fossil fuel use and inefficiency, as well as weaken environmentalism overall, if you completely prevent anything like the 1973 Oil Embargo.

What about that Apollo 8 picture? Wan't it a major impetus to Earth Day? Suppose Anders forgets his camera, or the film is over-exposed or ruined or something?

I don't suppose butterflying Greenpeace entirely is likely, given they arose IIRC in reaction to nuclear weapons. Can there be more "peace" & less "green"?
