AHC: Prevent Burr-Hamilton Duel

The best & most likely way to do this would be to prevent Hamilton from saying or writing the insults that drove Burr to challenge him- though of course if anybody
can think of an alternative please offer it! OR, given the characters & personalities of
Burr & Hamilton, is preventing that fateful
duel just ASB?

What's the latest POD? In my one where Jefferson wins in '96, he does poorly and Adams has to step in and there's a war IIRC, and Burr goes down to Louisiana to fight and stays down there to become the territorial governor and eventually Governor for a good while; it was a response to a challenge to end slavery and bring womens' suffrage decades early so having him rule a state was a big part of that for the womens' suffrage angle and helped keep Louisiana free, too.

If one more elector votes for Jefferson over Burr that *might* do it, I don't know how much Burr blamed Hamilton for costing him the Presidency, but without that he might not be *quite* as irate when the other stuff happens.

However, I think athe pot needs to be sweetened a bit; is there a way to get either one into a different state? Becasue their actions in New York politics seemed to shout, "This place ain't big enough for the two of us."

DTF955 I like your idea of putting Burr &
Hamilton in different states. I doubt Hamilton would have moved as by marriage
he was related to the politically powerful
Schuylers, & I doubt that would have been an alliance he would have had wished to cast
aside. So perhaps Burr then. We would have
to have a POD after 1794, when his first wife died, but before 1800, when he was Jeffer-
son's running mate. In this gap I could see him marrying again- he was a confirmed womanizer-but to a lady who is NOT a New Yorker & thus moving to THAT state(most likely Connecticut or New Jersey since they are neighbors of New York. Besides, Burr went to college in NJ).
