This is almost certainly ASB, but is it (in any realistic way) possible for Frederick Douglass to be elected President of the United States of America? You're a smart bunch, so I'm hoping for SOMETHING at least.
Abraham Lincoln becomes a socialist early in life, then converts Douglass. The two of them spread to America the 19th Century tradition of bearded duos bringing revolution to the masses. John Brown becomes a socialist, and leads a successful slave revolt that erupts into a full-scale proletarian revolution. After it's over, Abraham Lincoln is made General Secretary of the American Communist Party, while Frederick Douglass is made the provisional President.

That would make the President pro tempore of the Senate President. His death would make the Speaker of the House President. Then a special election would have been called to elect a new President.Successful radcial reconstruction including land redistribution as well as civil and political rights.
