AHC: President Alan Keyes

Just for laughs, your challenge is to present a scenario where Alan Keyes could plausibly win the Presidency of the United States. Preferably on the Republican Party ticket, but that's ultimately up to you.

McCain doesn't run, Bush takes a larger beating on his DUI. Possibly more are uncovered. Keyes rises to the top of what's left to secure the nomination. OR

McCain and Bush are deadlocked at the convention, neither willing to compromise with the other. Keyes is offered as a compromise candidate, Bush backs this play. Keyes/Bush is the ticket.

Meanwhile, the stench of the Clinton scandals don't leave Gore. While his wooden and boring personality fails to excite. Double whammy, he loses.

Third option. McCain wins the nomination, gives Keyes the VP spot in an attempt to court more african-american voters. McCain has a heart attack the day before the election and dies. McCain still wins, Keyes sworn in, in his place come January.

It's all a stretch, but it's the best I've got that's anywhere near plausable.

He pretty much has to stay off the crazy train - Trump could get elected challenging Obama’s birth certificate, but Keyes can’t.

He also needs to put down roots in a more moderate large state, somewhere with a substantial black population. If I were him, I’d run for Senate in Ohio - he isn’t beating Voinovich in 1998 but he could win in 2000. From there, he needs to garner support within the GOP among moderates and those who are comfortable with a black President. Then, as lon as he stays I his land from 2000-2016, he can run as a saner alternative to anyone in the GOP and defeat Hillary.
