AHC: Preserve the Omani Empire

How can the empire of Oman be preserved until the modern day? Any PoD can be used after 1748.

Perhaps avoiding the partition of 1861, might help, though I'm not sure about that, being rather deficient in that area of history.

I had a go at it in Malê Rising - to grossly oversimplify, Britain mediated the succession crisis in a way that avoided the partition, and then recruited the Omanis as their agents in subduing the interior of East Africa. Essentially, Oman's relationship to Britain was similar to that of Egypt in OTL, and the interior is very loosely analogous to OTL Sudan.

At the time of the partition, Zanzibar was the economic center but Oman was where most of the troops came from, so the two must stay together in order for the empire to remain both financially and militarily strong. Even then, it would need a great-power patron in order to prevent it from being dismembered by the other great powers as happened in OTL.
