AHC: post-1900 Republic to Monarchy

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is for a country which has had a republican form of government to become a monarchy no earlier than January 1, 1900.

The only OTL example I can think of is Spain, but that only sort-of counts (from the Second Spanish Republic to Franco's Spanish State to the modern Kingdom).

Serbia after an even worse result in the Third Balkan War, has had its entire political class delegitimized. In desperation for stable governance it invites Alexander Karadjordjevic, the current pretender to the Serbian throne, back to form a new government. Serbia is re-established as a constitutional monarchy in 1996, and becomes roughly similar to OTL Serbia, with a liberal monarchist-socialist coalition in government and ultra-nationalists in opposition.

Here are two options I can see happening:
-A Legitimist or Orleanist restortation in France after losing WW1
-Kurt v. Schleicher, before he was dumped by Hindenburg, was putting out feelers for a Hohenzollern restoration. perhaps in a different post-ww1 environment a restored Kaiserreich could occur?

You could probably have Bulgaria restore Tsar Simeon II pretty easily after communism fell. It was seriously discussed OTL and he was very popular; he formed a political party as a vehicle to return to government and won an absolute majority in parliament, becoming Prime Minister.

I heard about that. I think the Balkans are the most likely place to see a return of monarchies. Could an early collapse of Ba'athist Iraq lead to a Dawa Party dictatorship, with an eventual Hashemite restoration under a constitutional monarchy as a compromise between factions in the Second Iraqi Civil War?

Bulgaria came to my mind as well.

The restauration of the monarchy in Cambodia in 1993 in OTL was such an example.

In 1956 the British and French might have restored King Fuad II in Egypt with some pro-western Regent during the king's infancy. They had after all managed to restore Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi in Iran in 1953.

Post WW2 the western allies were also considering to restore some of the smaller german monarchies.

Austria at some point in the late 1920's or early 30's, perhaps as part of a resolution to the brief civil war?
Post-2001 Afghanistan would seem just possible; IIRC Zahir Shah was given the non hereditary title "Father of the Country".

I know that some of the Valkyrie plotters considered briging back the Monarchy after they had disposed of Hitler. Of course all that was dependent on the Allies and Soviets being willing to permit it but if for whatever reason the plotters succeed in pulling a negotiated peace (unlikely I know but in my opinion more likely than people make out today) maybe a Kaiser could be returned.

Valkyrie was simply too late - it would have saved millions of lives, but it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the war. However, any successful coup against Hitler is likely too bring the monarchy back, and - as others have said - a restoration of the monarchy is an alternative to Hitler that was indeed considered IOTL.
