AHC - Populous Newfoundland

With a POD no earlier than 1759 (Battle of the Plains of Abraham) can we make the isle of Newfoundland as least as populous as New Zealand OTL in the present day (about 4.2 million)?

Bonus points if we can make the island as populous as Ireland in 1840 (about 8.2 million).

For reference the current population of Newfoundland and Labrador is around 500k. You may or may not include Labrador in this AHC.

to start off with, have the ARW go differently (perhaps Quebec joins in) so that Britain ends up getting kicked off the continent entirely. thanks to the RN though, they easily prevent the Americans from capturing newfoundland, leaving it as the last major possession in north America.

the British loyalists move there, bolstering its population, and with it being the last major holding in north amerce it gets much more attention and investment from the British allowing it to be more developed.
