AHC: Political union between Canada and Australia

The only way I could see this happening is a global revolt against the British Empire. Such a civil war or a (the more likely) revolution occurring would have to take place before 1945; unless!: Germany sets up a puppet government in London.

Pretty implausible outside of a monetary/customs union. Ignoring the political, economic, social and cultural differences between the nations, there is also the issue of them being 14'000 km from each other, and Australia's population being 23 Million to Canada's 35 Million (Which when it comes to representation will result in a Canada dominating whatever Parliament the two have).

There is also literally no reason why either would want to pursue this when Australia can Federalize with New Zealand and British Oceania possessions, whilst Canada can do the same with the Caribbean and Bermuda.

Really can't see this happening. After 1931, the Dominions were pretty much independent anyway. Gonna have to be one hell of a POD!

Germany sets up a puppet government in London.

This is a more 'likely' POD. A Britain defeated by the nazis (maybe even the Kaiserreich, but it's less likely) leaves the Dominions to strike out on their own. For whatever reason (financial, a desire for unity, etc) the two 'Pacific' dominions unify.

Realistically, the most likely bet is going to be a "British Empire-in-Exile" sort of situation (Although I do wonder where the likes of India fits into this) with the UK controlled by a German backed puppet government after either World War.

Alternatively you could perhaps have a sort of CP Victory (with the United States as part of the CP of course) that Onkel Willie managed to achieve in the "The Twin Eagles and the Lion*" in which the United States managed to take control (although with a considerable level of self-governance granted) of both Canada and Australia. So technically you are able to meet the OP though this method.

New Zealand had the option of joining the Commonwealth of Australia and refused.

Highly implausible without a very early POD. Australia and Canada more often compete economically than compliment one another, and while relations are obviously good and the two nations get along well, their identities are very different as are their interests. The only halfway plausible way I could think of this occurring would be as part of a broader union of some kind, in which both nations were fairly small components. On their own it's hard to ever see interests aligning enough for this to occur.

What economic advantages did each country bring to a union?
Sure Australia brought sheep, but what minerals did she bring?
What tropical crops did she bring to the bargaining table?
