AHC/PC: Peaceful Balkans

With a post-Treaty of Versailles POD, have the Balkans become a region of stability and have the ethnic and nationalistic issues become a thing of the past as well as stable democracies develop in the region.

Yugoslavia annexes Bulgaria and doesn't fall apart. Albania is fine, and Greece is semi-fine. Romania I cannot think of anything for them... Sorry.

The problem with Yugoslavia was its status as an artificial state and its break-up proved that due to ethnic disputes.

In my opinion NO Yugoslavia would have been better for the region.

They are south slavs and they wanted to be united. The Serbs ruined it by making themselves have most of the power, but if they have Bulgaria, then it will add a balancing force of sorts to make sure the Serbs don't try anything stupid.

Or you just end up with Croatia and Bulgaria trying to partition Serbia when Yugoslavia collapses.

I think people are contesting your "when".
Multi-ethnic states can hold together for quite a while, historically (cf. India, which consists of all kinds of groups like Bengali or Cholan or Dravidian all lumped together under the moniker "Indian".)

Make sure Yugoslavia is federalized, and that it's federalized based on plebiscites and the principle of self-determination. Ideally, it should have been federalized from the very beginning: this could probably be accomplished by breaking up a few unlikely 1921 political alliances that created a unitary Constitution for OTL's Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
Another opportunity would be the Communist takeover, modify their model of federalization into something more sustainable and that could also work. Though, to have that happen, one would also have to make some changes to the Communist party's pre-war history and development.

The Southern Slavs aren't all that different from each other, and they were so ethnically and demographically mixed throughout the area that one state incorporating them all was the obvious solution. And it was a solution that had considerable public support for much of that time.

It wasn't fated to fail. And it was no more "artificial" than any number of multinational/multiethnic states.

They are south slavs and they wanted to be united.

Except neither the first or the second Yugoslavia was created according to popular demand, so this claim is impossible to back up.

The Southern Slavs aren't all that different from each other, and they were so ethnically and demographically mixed throughout the area that one state incorporating them all was the obvious solution.

So is the union between the USA and Canada, and yet they staunchly remain two countries...

And they have far, far less differences than "South Slavic" nations have between each other.

And it was a solution that had considerable public support for much of that time.

According to what?

Find a way to keep the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs alive.

For that to happen, you need to have the Serbian Army utterly destroyed in WWI and prevent the mass surrender of the Austro-Hungarian Army after the Battle of Vittorio Veneto. Or better yet, have a less chaotic fall of Austria-Hungary.

100% agreed.
