We know that the Ottonians captured two out of the three kingdoms that arose out of the Carolingian Empire. We also know that 10th century France was kind of a basket case. So how do we get to a point where an Ottonian, rather than Hugh Capet, was King of France? Do they take the whole thing? Does Aquitaine take this opportunity to skit-bop (as one of my friends would say) out of France altogether?
