AHC: Ottomans lose all Balkan territories before 1836

Is there a way the Ottomans could lose all their Balkan lands (excluding Istanbul/Constantinople, unless necessary) before the year 1836? I ask because I want to know if it's historically plausible to start a Victoria 2 game as the Ottoman Empire without the Balkans.

its possible that a successful Napoleonic Empire could expand in that direction. I'm imagining one reason would be to liberate the lands of the first democracy (Greece) from the conservative old empire of Turkey, That probably doesn't answer your question, since Victoria takes place long after the Napoleonic Wars end.

If you're going to see the Ottomans lose all their European territories they will lose Constantinople too.

They can lose Constantinople if they have to. Just another goal in Vicky 2: retake the capital!

By the way, in the Russo-Turkish War (1828–1829), could it be possible for Russia to force the Ottomans into harsher terms of peace? I don't know much about the war other than a quick Wikipedia browse, so that's why I ask.

That seems like a reasonable POD. If France and Russia maintain friendly relations and divide Europe between themselves then it becomes more plausible.

There were a number of wars between the Ottomans and Austria and/or Russia in the 18th century. Make the Austrians more succesful and add to it a cristian uprising seeing those successes and maybe.

Lets say the Austrians dont screw up in 1737-39 as they did and instead destroy the ottoman army sent against them and reach Nis, after that have a serbian rebellion and continue with the other christians.

Instant result would be much of Serbia inside of Austria. Maybe a small independent Serbia based around Kosovo. Big Bulgaria and an independent Greece. I think Albania would be divided by its neighbours. Ottomans wouldnt have much more than they have today - if you want to take that from them too than either give those territories to Greece or Bulgaria. Oh and i dont think that cristian revolts freeing the Balkans next to Austria would be kind to local muslim and turkish minorities. Later Serbia could get much of its territory in the north and parts or the whole of Bosnia during the Napoleonic wars but after that i think Austria would get it back.

This is easier and faster to mod as you only have to change the Balkans. To mod a Napoleonic victory would take much more time.

This is probably way earlier than you want but... Byzantines win the Battle of Manzikert in 1071, which means there are no Ottomans. :cool:

If you are just looking for a general scenario, perhaps a POD where the War of Spanish Succession never happens. The Austrians, lead by Prince Eugen, have more resources and are able to really crush the Ottomans in the early 18th century.

The Habsburgs are able to sweep into the Balkans. Wallachia defects. Then either in this war or the next one, the Bulgarians rebel allowing the Austrians to take even more land and/or establish a tributary state. A third war finally finishes off the Ottomans and pushes them out of Europe entirely.

This would generate a lot of butterflies, so I don't know how it would impact the rest of the setting in your Vicky II game. However, it seems like you just want an easy explanation to justify the challenge.

Various PODs:

1) The Janissaries depose the Sultan during the Auspicious Incident and Christians go crazy with the shift of power;

2) Ali Pasha makes himself Sultan;

3) Greek Revolution spreads into the Balkans;

4) etc.

Not a difficult challenge, I should say.
