AHC: Oprah Winfrey runs for US president

So I was looking at works of some on-line cartoonists when I found this dating back to 2004:

What surprised me was the irony that an African-American did run run in the 2008 presidential election under the "HOPE" slogan :p

But it also inspired this challenge: get Oprah Winfrey involved in politics and run for US president.

Why would she want less power? :p

More honestly, I assume she'd be a Democrat, or liberal independent. Has she ever expressed political messages?

With her money she could run as an independent and do well. Maybe not win but get 20% of the vote. Her best bet would be to run for the democratic nomination.

Well if she ran in 2008, she'd kill Hillary's chances of getting the nomination. They would split Hillary's base and Hillary would lose. I think Oprah would have a shot at being a frontrunner; she's well known thanks to her talk show and commands respect. She also has good oratory skills. Still, she'd probably lose in 2008 to Obama.

She could divide the black vote, and maybe even take most of it. Maybe she spoils both, and John Edwards wins the nomination?

In any case, it might be better for her to run for governor or senator or even just House rep first.

I think her opponents and the media could ridicule the topics on her show. I think she would have trouble being taken seriously.

Tom Hanks runs in 2004. Everyone feels dirty not voting for Tom Hanks because, you know, it's Tom Hanks! Oprah runs in 2012 against Mitt Romney and wins in a landslide.

She endorsed Barack Obama in 2008 and campaigned heavily for him. My mother watched Oprah for decades and felt very alienated by Oprah using her power to help Obama, partly I think because my mother was a big fan of Hillary Clinton until the general election season.
