Your challenge is to find a way for a people (preferably christian, though it's not absolutely necessary), conquered by the early caliphates, to lead a successful rebellion and eventually expel the invaders from the area it claims as its own in a manner somewhat similar to the Spanish during the 9th-15th centuries.
I'm really drawing a blank on who else could do it. The spanish had a bunch of advantages: a historical claim to a distinct territory, mountainous terrain which could shelter rebels and small kingdoms, and a position on the periphery of the muslim world.
Perhaps the Armenians could have built a larger and more successful kingdom, but who else?
