In the history of the US, only three senators have gone directly from the Senate to the White House: Harding, JFK, and Obama. http://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/common/briefing/senators_became_president.htm I'm trying to think of a scenario when that number becomes *zero*: eight years of Frank Lowden, followed by Hoover, FDR, Truman (he didn't go *directly* from the Senate to the presidency), Ike, Nixon (hadn't been a senator for eight years in 1960)--and what next?
