AHC: Nixon Survives Watergate As Long As Possible

With a POD no earlier than May 17, 1973 — when the Senate Watergate hearings began — have Richard Nixon remain President of the United States as long as possible before resigning, ending his term, or being removed from office.

Bonus points if he survives into the swearing in of a new Congress.

Alexander Butterfield isn’t questioned by the Senate investigators the Summer of ‘73.

And at first, he wasn’t.

He was no longer Nixon’s Deputy Chief-of-Staff and was instead head of the FAA. Apparently, in a second or later round of persons, the Senate Committee investigators got around to him.

“He was invited to a standard pre-interview on Friday, July 13 [1973].” And a Senate investigator asked him a direct question about any other recording devices [other than for dictating letters], and Butterfield answered.
