AHC: Nixon gets coattails from his 1972 landslide

Looking at the close Senate races...

Colorado, Delaware, Kentucky, Montana were won by Democrats by less than 5%, and Georgia, Maine, and Rhode Island by less than 10%. The Republicans winning all of those would create a 49-49-1-1 Senate. The Republicans + 1 Conservative = 50, and Spiro Agnew breaks the tie.

By my count there were 23 Democratic House victories within a 10% margin, but even if the Republicans win all of them, it'd be a 220-215 Democratic House. You need a slightly bigger swing to achieve a Republican House.

As for how you'd do it? You would need the Democratic Establishment much more tied to McGovern. Replacing McGovern with an "Establishment" loser doesn't necessarily mean coat-tails (the Republicans hardly made huge gains in 1984), but I think, for example, our vulnerable Democrats agreeing to be seen with McGovern might work here. The difficulty is how would you get them to do something like that.
