AHC: Napoleon recreates Lithuania

Deleted member 97083

Would it have been feasible for Napoleon Bonaparte to have created an independent Lithuanian state? Perhaps a war with Russia where France takes a more defensive stance at first, defeating a Russian offensive, allowing a counterattack to establish a Lithuanian buffer without the unsustainable campaign deeper into Russia? Napoleon could ultimately have plans for a more expensive invasion later, but decides to establish a buffer state for the time being.

Realistically the only country that could create and maintain the independence of Lithuania at this time would be a united Germany, France is just too far away.

Well, this would firstly piss off his loyal ally Poland and secondly would be swallowed up by Russia if events went as OTL with the failed invasion.

If he does as you say and does not go deep into Russia, he wins militarily and can enforce a peace of his liking within reason. Napoleon only invaded however to force Russia to respect the Continental System, which even some of his stronger allies flouted.

An independent Lithuania would be more trouble than it is worth to set up. It sure as hell would not be truly independent either but simply a satellite.
