AHC: Muslim majority country in the Americas

With a POD no earlier than the First Crusade, how is it possible to get a Muslim majority country in the Americas??? Bonus points if it does not involved freed slaves reverting back to Islam.

Get the various colonial powers to import Indonesians (Malays, in the case of Britain), as the Dutch did in Suriname, and the Caribbean will have a large Muslim Indonesian population instead of a large Indian population.

A surviving Muslim Iberia (say the Almohads) would do the trick. Say dynastic or religious schism causes Iberia to be cut off from the eastern trade, so they would have a similar motivation to seek an alternate route to the spice trade once maritime technology is up to snuff.

Otherwise, Boss is right that increased indentured servitude from Muslim areas of Asia could do the trick.

Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur of Morocco once mused about the idea of colonising the New World. With a bit of a Morocco wank and the Anglo-Moroccan alliance, you could secure for Morocco one of the lesser sugar islands, which at some point can get independence and be a majority Muslim country in the New World.

Yeah. Combined with more Muslim Indians than OTL.

I wanna come up with a plausible scenario post-1740 for an Independent Muslim Puerto Rico, myself, to be honest... Also a Sephardi Jewish Jamaica, but that's another topic altogether...

Have more "New Christians" flee Iberia for the New World. Settle them in a back-water plantation. Let the Catholic Church forget about them for a generation or three. One plantation reverts to Judaism while a couple more revert to the Moroccan version of Islam.

WI Gaspar Costa de Sosa succeeded in establishing a colony along the Pecos River?
It would not have been a Muslim colony, but would have been a "New Christian" colony found by an Iberian Jew.

OTL de Sosa was a Portuguese-born Jew who only converted to Christianity as a convenience. de Sosa was a slaver who launched an un-authorized expedition out of Spanish-controlled Mexico up the coast of what is now Texas. Along the way de Sosa antagonised natives and was eventually returned to Mexico in shackles. Because de Sosa did not take a Catholic priest with him, he was accused of Jewish activities and exiled to the Philippines where he died before completing his probation.

I think the easiest POD would be a bunch of Islamic slaves / indentured labourers on a Caribbean island that eventually gains independence would be the easiest. Not much of a nation, but it still fits the bill.

The fact the Spaniards explicitly prohibited new christians from settling the new world seems to make this scenario impossible inside the frame of post reconquista Spain.

Did Spain have any restrictions importing Muslim African slaves to any of the plantation islands?

If we can go after 1900, then the attempted Islamic revolution in Trinidad succeeds, prompting many of the rest of the population to leave, and the revolutionary government then encourages refugees from Middle Eastern wars to resettle in the country?

Had revolution in T&T any chances to success?
