AHC: Multi-sport teams continue in America

Most early baseball teams (the most organized early sport) had some kind of side athletic offering for money, with the same players of the same teams taking the field for not only baseball but soccer and American football, among others. Is there any way to continue this trend, to the point where most major sports are filled by one set of teams in America in 2015?

I would like that Idea like all New York teams being Yankees and other Mets(both in Baseball,NFL and NBA), maybe team use the YMCA and multi deal prospect, plus the idea of massive, multi purporse stadium for all sports would catch on.

After sports start involving huge amounts of money I don't think this is possible.
Pro Athletes used to be paid the same as regular people and most had off-season jobs to make ends meet the rest of the year. Playing an exhibition sport was probably a preferable choice compared to going to work in a coal mine.
Now with the massive amounts of money involved most owners wouldn't want to risk highly paid stars getting injured in a secondary sport and the athletes themselves have no incentive since if their million dollar contracts aren't providing enough money they can always do commercials or start a line of shoes.
