AHC: Most Powerful Sweden Possible

How could we get the most powerful Sweden possible? They were quite powerful in the 17th Century but tended to be demographically and materially outmatched by their neighbors despite being tactically proficient on the field.

Strong Sweden? Keep Gustav Adolph around for a bit longer, assemble the Corpus Evangelicorum, eventually grab Norway and Denmark and forge some sort of North European Federation (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Prussia, Livonia and the various north German states) and, uh, go west and burn London to the ground?

OTL is pretty much there ...

Sweden simply have to small a population to be a earth-shaker beyond what they were

IMO the strongest "Sweden" is Brandenburg-Sweden personal union (Gustav-Adolph lives a bit longer and marries Christine off to Great Elector), however I'm unsure whether Sweden under Hohenzollern dynasty counts as "Sweden" (though Swedish throne will prevail and no claim to title "King in Prussia" will exist TTL).
With Frederick-Wilhelm at helm a MASSIVE Polish and Russian screw ensues, and Sweden becomes the heart of European industrial revolution - given Great Elector's tendencies and Swedish rich iron supplies.

Have them take Norway from Denmark in the 1668-peace(when they took Copenhagen) and removing the dagger in their back.
From there they can focus on defending their eastern possessions in the Baltic from Poland-Lithuania and Russia.
To ensure a happy Sweden from there, have a moderate Atlantic navy and try to diplomatically play England, The Netherlands and France off each other so no one feels Sweden as a threat to them(except Russia and Poland).

And have their militarily smart kings be taught from early age what hubris is, and why it is a bad thing.

to clarify ... i think OTL Sweden is as powerful as it can be without wanking it, without making 'Sweden' a secondary crown in a personal union, even if older

EDIT:

Have them take Norway from Denmark in the 1668-peace(when they took Copenhagen)

ehh ... Sweden never actually managed to take Copenhagen. Threatened it yes, sieged it yes, captured it no. And i think you mean the 1658 peace (which Sweden immediately broke)

You need Gustav Adolf living a bit longer (preferable having a male heir)

The problem of Swden is that too often in critical times the King died too early and you needed a regent.

There was an identical thread a while ago but I can't seem to find it. Sweden's biggest problem is its small population. They'll just never have the numbers to equal the other players in Europe so they need allies. I think the best possibility is to prevent the split between the Swedish and Polish branches of the house of Vasa or at least leave them on friendly terms.

A strong Swedish-Polish relationship could push back Russia and keep it from ever reaching the sea.

good idea than we can still keep the Baltic a Swedish Lake.

I love my "Brandenburg-Sweden" personal union better:)
If such a construct starts before Deluge, they can reasonably grab Grand Duchy of Lithuania as their vassal state by giving more support to Radziwill Uprising and Kedainiai Union Treaty becomes less of piece of paper. Say hello to true Baltic Lake:)

Instead of fighting every war against Denmark in Skåne, how about sending an army into Norway with the intention of capturing it?

If we slightly alter the OTL events,
Sweden could have got Bohuslän in 1645.
Mecklenburg and all of Pommerania in 1648.
Lithuania in 1655,
Norway in 1658,
most of Saxony and parts of Russia and Poland in the early 1700s.

From there it would not be implausible to form an even larger state, while still keeping the centre in Stockholm. Brandenburg and Muscovy developed into great powers over a few centuries, and Sweden did have a head start before them.

Anyone heard of GURPS Alternate Earths? They have a TL where Sweden under Charles XII allies with Louis XIV and takes New England. And manage to keep and expand it. Later, they also take the rest of Scandinavia, Poland, northern Germany and parts of Russia.
