With a POD of 1492 or later, how alternate could the Americas get? Obviously this is sort of subjective. I just want to hear cool ideas.
I'm thinking that maybe, if Portugal conquered the Aztecs, they could have possibly, with the gold money, colonized the East Coast. And maybe avoided Brazil. The Dutch might colonize Canada and the French might colonize Brazil. While the English might focus on South Africa and the East Indies. Spain would have most of the Caribbean and South America except for Brazil, and would, of course, not have Mexico because Portugal would own those aresa.
Or, New Sweden could survive, and so could New Netherlands. Maybe Spain could conquer the Virginia colonies, and England would focus on New England. The Huguenots might migrate massively to all said colonies, and eventually North America would have a plethora of European ethnicities. And with the Europeans being more divided, there might be a few Native American states that stay independent.
If Spain consisted of Castile, Aragon, and Portugal, then it might colonize everything it did in North America and all of South America including Brazil. It might even colonize Louisiana and the CSA area.
I wonder how the New World might develop if England and Portugal went into personal union before England abandoned Catholicism.
