AHC: More Nurburgrings?

The Nurburgring Nordschleife (and IIUC Spa Francorchamps) are rare or even unique in being public roads where on certain times of day/week/year they run tourist days for the public, run what ya brung rather than an organised track day or whatever.

Are there other places where such a thing could be organised? In Australia Bathurst springs to mind as a public road on the edge of town that is occasionally closed for races, however there would have to be even greater restrictions on the use of the scenic road by the locals and non racing visitors.

The problem with public driving of race circuits is that when you put people on race tracks, they drive far more dangerously than they would elsewhere, and the organizers of Touristenfarhten at the Nurburgring have had all kinds of problems with this. Can you imagine the insurance issues this could cause at other tracks?

Since I paid €150 to reduce my excess to a mere €3000 for the rental car alone I most certainly can imagine that. IIUC your personal car has no insurance if you crash it. However there was no shortage of punters including those driving million dollar supervars, and rental cars for the 'ring appears to be big business. At €30 a lap or €2200 for a season pass the government appears to be able to bear the costs and local businesses were teeming with punters and spectators.

I'm thinking of how to project this model onto Mt Panorama. Obviously the top of the mountain has to be included, mountain straight ends in a hill so could be included in its entirety and pit strait is pretty short so I'd include most or all of that. What we don't want is people belting down Conrod into the Chase so I'd set up the finish line on the bottom of the hill out if forest elbow like the gantry at the 'ring. Punters could then roll through the Chase into the paddock. I'd make the start gate the mini entrance to pit straight so punters could get most of the lap in.
