Indeed.

Although, people said the same thing about Prohibition as the 19th Amendment. It was the only constitutional amendment which restricted the rights of citizens, instead of expanding them, and people were worried that it would diminish respect for the constitution in general. And yet, how often do people today think about that? I'm inclined to think that something like that might briefly make people think differently about amendments, but in general I don't think it would have a particularly significant impact.

What about India and it's caste system? Couldn't untouchables be counted as slaves to an extent or at least with a minor pod have them count as slaves?

I have also heard that migrant workers who work in the gulf states are more or less treated as slaves, however I don't know to what extent how true this is.
