AHC: Mobile Police Patlabor more popular than Neon Genesis Evangelion

As stated in the title: make the Real Robot anime franchise "Mobile Police Patlabor" more popular than Super Robot anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion".

The first thing that they do is change the art work on the cover of the English VHS boxes. That was some of the work art work ever.

Finish the manga in North America.

Patlabor is one of my favorite series.

Yeah, that'd do it.
Or Not. The only mecha franchises bigger than Neon Genesis Evangelion are Macross and Gundam, this is actually going to be insanely hard.

They're very different shows. Eva was something else when it first came out, as was Patlabor, but not as much. Eva was dark, introspective and everything else, Patlabor is cops with mecha.

Evangelion also has that stupidly complicated art and crappy budgeting to make it "deep," which will naturally drive talk and everything that comes after.
Maybe if Anno had been a bit better with money, it wouldn't have been as big in Japan, so there's no End of Evangelion, and it just dies there? Meanwhile, to give Patlabor a new series in the early to mid 90's, that pretty much bounces between You're Under Arrest! and Hill Street Blues in feel, and then the two TV series also run on *Toonami in the states. That might do it, simply by drowning Eva under the weight of everything else.

For Patlabor, keep the production team together longer. They had some great minds and talent but they started to work on other projects and things like XIII took forever to get done.

For introspective, the second move is very much a thinking movie. As a friend of mine said when he first saw it in the 90's "This is like a Tom Clancy novel with mechs."

Try and get a series of movies, a mix of sci-fi and thriller. There was a while when Eva did not have anything new but they are able to market their product. With movies it might be cheaper for North American distributors to bring them in. Get then to be on limited runs in theaters in North America.

I like EVA, I am in Japan right now on vacation and saw Rebuild 3.0 in the theater. As well almost all the UFO catcher locations have at least 3 types of EVA products. You can tell that Anno sold the IP to almost everybody as there is Eva/Hello Kitty clothing or EVA razors.

hum... so maybe a new TV series that hits a middle ground between the comedy/action mix of the earlier series and the thriller aspect/seriousness of the movies would to do the trick, if released at the same time of NGE?
