AHC: May Day Widely Celebrated As Workers' Holiday in US

The obvious obstacles: (1) The creation of Labor Day in September as an alternative, and (2) the association with Communism and especially huge Moscow parades with lots of military equipment and images of Marx, Engels, and Lenin:

Yet after all in many nations May Day is celebrated by trade unions that are not Communist or even Socialist, including Christian and apolitical unions. How could the day be made more "respectable" in the US?

Taxi Driver is never made so John Hinckley Jr. never sees Jodie Foster and never tries to assassinate Reagan so Walter Mondale wins in 1984 and surrenders to the Soviets 47 days later. May Day would certainly be an important celebration in Soviet America.
