AHC: May 4th Movement Births Democratic China

Well, my knowledge about Liao Zhongkai is limited, but I'll be happy to help you with my limited knowledge:D On AH.com, people here have been talking about a world without the assassinations of JFK, RFK or Lincoln. I think it would be interesting to see a world without the assassinations of either Sung Chiao-jen, Liao Zhongkai or even Tao Cheng-zhang.
Thank you! I'll try to remember to post a planning thread with some of my notes, and PM when I've done so. Now my mission du jour is to get you to write in pinyin so I can understand the names without having to look them up :p:p (kidding, of course. not sure how you guys in Xiang Gang feel about the mainland ;) )
Comments on your idea: I love the southern expedition and "Jing-hai" split. However, I think Nanjing would be a better choice for Zhang Binglin's capital, as it has more legitimacy and is not in the lap of the imperialist powers. Also, YOU KILLED SUN YIXIAN!!! :((
Federalist China united from the north is a very interesting idea and your method of going about it is probably the best. Never much cared for Chen Jiongming though. Also, averting the 2nd Sino-Japanese War seems like a cop-out IMO, but a necessary one in this case - federal China would be pretty weak in the 1930s and I doubt it would survive the Japanese onslaught...

UIAM, the latter tried to kill the former OTL (around the same time as he does successfully TTL), but Sun was saved by Chiang Kai Shek, earning his trust. Anyway, I can see why a Sun fan wouldn't care for Chen...

I found myself wondering myself how TTL's China would handle Japanese aggression similar to OTL -- though I think they'd actually do well enough, maybe better than OTL since the reunification went so much smoother...

In 1939, the European Great War breaks out. China and Japan both fight on the side of the Allies, while the United States remains neutral... Things beyond are up to your imagination.

What country do the Japanese and Chinese fight, the Soviet Union?

Now that you mention it, China and/or Japan actually in an active war with Germany does seem to stretch plausibility... Plus, like I said, I'm find myself now wondering how a China more "politically" united by Wu Peifu would handle Japan that acted more or less as OTL -- right now, I still think it would go better for the defenders...

They may retain China, but can they push the Japanese out of Korea? Taiwan may at this point be largely Han, but the populace was being treated by the Japanese than were the Koreans, and Japan still has the advantage at sea. There could be many interesting consequences if a better prepared, better integrated China came to blows with the Japanese Empire.
