AHC: Make YOUR country bigger and otherwise change nothing

Quite simple idea I had. Come up with a scenario post 1900 that makes your country a "greater" version of itself and otherwise change no borders in the world, except for the countries you take land from.

This is to mimic those poorly made maps that's just a modern map of the world except the creators country being unreasonably large.

UK could only really do it by integrating colonies that wanted to remain with it - eg Malta, some Caribbean states

Other than that, post 1900, well would have to find a way to keep Eire

Finland manage to take East Karelia and Kola during Russian Civil War. This causes some changes but it is pretty hard change borders and not change anything.

Canada somehow gets St. Pierre and Miquolen from the French. But I don't think anyone in Paris, or indeed on the islands themselves, was ever really interested in that.

Kola is huge but I have often wondered what is there? Lots of forest? Anything else? Natural resources? Stuff in the seas that would fall into national waters? Can't imagine many people live there?

Wonder how not losing panama would means...that have to change something isn´t it? any little thing have to means something for West Venezuela

Looking at your thread title, all I could imagine was some sort of gigantic version of the Doctor's tardis...New Hampshire with as much elbow room as New Mexico once you cross the border...

800,000 people live there and it is very rich in mineral wealth.

There would be a lot less people there if it was a part of Finland, I'd wager. Even with a thriving mining economy, I find it hard to imagine a Finnish Kola with more than, say, 400 000 people. Unless there is a lot of guest workers from abroad, I guess.

As for the OP, it would be difficult to have Finland get Eastern Karelia and possibly Kola and keep them until the modern day, and not change world history. That is such a big change already for the interwar, and it would make WWII look a lot different.

If we posit no significant changes to world history, I think we might see Finland coming out of WWII with some more of Karelia, maybe Viipuri and surroundings, and Petsamo. Keep butterflies in check, and post-WWII world history could see only minimal change.

Not signing the border treaty of 1941 treaty may gave a slightly bigger size to Venezuela or actually, preventing it from getting smaller...

If I have to restrict myself to post-1900 PoDs then the Netherlands keeping Netherlands New Guinea would be a possibility. Beyond that, keeping Suriname is another. They didn't want to leave. We got rid of them nonetheless. Lastly, the Netherlands annexed about 69 square kilometres of German territory in 1949, but decided to give it back in 1960 after negotiations with West Germany. We could decide to keep it.

More decisive political leadership, means that Greece can easily get Cyprus, and without any bloodshed whatsoever. Had Greece entered the Great War on the Entente side earlier, the British had promised us Cyprus, and had Greek governments in the early 1950s been more cooperative with Britain and the US, Cyprus would have been Greek. That said, it might have led to a full Greco-Turkish War come the Colonels' Junta(if that ever happened), so I don't know whether it would be a good idea.

Czechoslovakia or Hungary keeps Carpathian Ruthenia. I honestly doubt it would drastically change anything for the USSR.

(I just realized the title says YOUR country. My apologies)

If this has to be a post-1900 POD, have some version of the Hoare-Laval Pact go through during the Second Italo-Ethiopian War where Ethiopia becomes an Italian client state with a Fascist government in Addis Ababa whole having most of Ethiopia’s Tigrayan and Somali-inhabited regions go to the Italians. History largely goes the same as IOTL except this Fascist Ethiopia takes the chance to reclaim the territories it lost to the Italians in 1935-36 and some more during World War 2. Ethiopia takes the chance to annex Italian Eritrea and French Somaliland during the war while reclaiming what parts of the Ogaden were lost.

Tito's partisans are too busy in the south to contact their non counterparts, who get slaughtered and fail to pull off the foibe, and, as such, Italy retains Istria and maybe even Zara.

The referendum in Malta decides that the Island Will join Italy instead of the UK or going indipendent.

France doesn't take Tenda in WW2 peace negotiations.

belgium gets luxembourg(part of netherlands at the time), dutch limburg, zeeland(flemish) at the independence and somehow gains french flanders from france later(lille)

also more reparations in ww2 gets us Aachen/koln (assuming belgium has dutch limburg already bordering the region)

Not sure how to make Canada any bigger with a post-1900 POD, without massive changes in the timeline that is. Maybe we accept the Turks and Caicos as a province.
