AHC: Make Tom Tancredo President in 2008

Now Tom Tancredo would have a good chance if he had entered in 2016 and Trump had not.

However the challenge is to make his presidential campaign in 2008 successful in not only getting the nomination but also defeating the Democratic nominee.

Once president what would be the results of his presidency, how would his policy differ from Obama?

First of all, I disagree with you about 2016. Taking a hard line on immigration did not *by itself* lead to Trump's nomination; Cruz if anything took a harder line on immigration than Trump--who said that though he would deport everyone in the country illegally, he would let the "good ones" back in. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ruz-differs-from-donald-trump-on-immigration/ You simply cannot ignore the immense celebrity status Trump has had for decades--and with it the widespread notion, however dubious, that he was The World's Greatest Businessman who could fix all of America's problems. The notion that someone without that celebrity would get the same number of votes Trump got by taking the same positions on issues is absurd. (Even leaving aside the fact that Trump's positions on issues, including immigration, have been far from consistent--he criticized Mitt Romney for losing Hispanic votes by talking about "self-deportation" in 2012...) Tancredo would just be a little-recognized one issue candidate.

For the same reason Tancredo would have little chance of being nominated in 2008, but most important, with the economy melting down under a Republican administration, no Republican would have a chance of winning the White House that year.
