AHC: Make This Map Happen

With a POD no later than 1840, make this map accurate for the present day (if that terrible sentence doesn't make sense, feel free to ask me what I mean).

Quick note: those weird, angular borders with Texas can be jimmied a little to make 'em look nice.

I don't see the Republic of the Yucatan surviving. The majority of the population were angry serfs who'd been viciously oppressed for centuries and were armed by their overlords to win their independence from Mexico. And there was nothing the Yucatecos could do to stop them without signing their independence away.

Whats the striped thing south of Yucatan? Also, do the various three territories belong to Mexico?

Perhaps the TL the stars at night could help you.

Ps- what's the spot between Alta California and New Mexico?

All of the grey areas are part of Mexico, the striped area is disputed with Britain (Belize/British Honduras). The light grey part between NM and AC is the part of New Mexico not claimed by Texas.

USA takes Baja California after Guadalupe-Hidalgo, then flat-out tells Texas that its border is at the Nueces River.

The map, Mexican made, represents the political situation as of 1848 (because Yucatan remained independent until 1849 instead).

There.

To me the map implies that Alta California, Baja California and Nuevo Mexico are part of the Mexican Republic. I guess the U.S. lost the Mexican-American War and its hold on Texas.

Nit-picky question - Isn't Texas properly spelled Tejas in (19th century) Spanish?
