AHC: Make the War of 1812 a Civil War

By this, i mean that the war was not a war fought between the British and Americans (maybe that happens later as a consequence) but rather an earlier division between North (New England) and the Southern states (rest of the US).

Is it possible for any such conflict to occur at this time? Is it possible at all for secession to become a reality in the early 19th century

Perhaps a more radical Hartford convention? Whilst the moderate federalist's weren't seriously considering succession, if representatives could be at all possible replace with more radical ones, perhaps the New England states could succeed, and during/following the war, the rest of the United States would fight the secessionists. If not, you could have the states themselves garner peace with the British, and the US could "reprimand" these treasonous states during/following the war.

Prehapse the New England states declare neutrality and rufuse to support the US attack on Canada.
The US may take punitive action against the New England states as the war settles into a no-score draw.
I would imagine the British would help the New Englanders (either overtly or covertly) with the French monarcy helping the side they think most likely to undo the Louisiana Sale.
