AHC: Make The Spirit more popular than Batman

Based on my other comic book AHC which was to make Captain Marvel/Shazam more popular than both Batman and Superman, your challenge today however, is to make The Spirit a character created by Will Eisner more popular than Batman. You can use a POD no later than 1940 the year that The Spirit debuted good luck.

Have Detective Comics hire Eisner; he knew Bob Kane from high school. Jack Liebowitz likes the Spirit character better than Batman, and so he gets more covers.

That is a very good POD thought I think you would also need for Will Eisner not to serve in WW2. As when he went off to serve The Spirit didn't have any comics coming out.

My take is have Standard publishing threaten to sue DC over Columbia's first Batman serial. Supposedly there was an agreement between the two companies over Batman & the Pulp hero The Black Bat that Standard they wouldn't sue each other if Black Bat didn't get into comics and Batman didn't get into pulp magazines. (But if the agreement was to stay in their lane) and the two serials are dropped.
Preventing the 60s show from being made. Said showrunner makes a Spirit show instead

I would have Sam Raimi direct a spirit movie in 1982 which is a mega hit because against a budget of 22 million dollars it grosses 175 million dollars and critics like it because of how respectfully he treated the source material while also making it feel like something that fans of the evil dead like as well

Easy, don't have Bill Finger, Jerry Robinson, and Dick Sprang work on Batman. This would no Joker, Robin, Riddler, etc. That alone would drop him to second, if not third tier character.
