Basically, from the moment of Japan's surrender I would like folks to imagine a scenario that results in...
a) The Maximum number of deaths
b) The Maximum number of people living under oppressive governments
c) The Maximum cultural/economic/ecological destruction
d) The Bleakest outlook for humanity's future
...by the end of the 20th century which do not involve nuclear or biological or chemical warfare (Nuke/Bio/Chem accidents though are fair game so long as they are realistic), wholesale conquest of the world by a single power (so no 1984 style scenarios), and while we are at it no natural disasters that didn't happen OTL (so no meteor strikes).
National/regional conflicts connected to the cold war are fair game, as are regime changes, diseases, industrial/military accidents, environmental degredation, and pretty much anything that doesnt fall back on apocalyptic nuclear war.
