AHC: Make Swizerland Disappear

With a PoD later than 1291, make so that any attempt to form a state in the valleys of the Alps fails miserably and leads to a shared border between Germany and Italy (or equivalents, in any case).

Perhaps Sonderbund War leads to the implosion of Switzerland? And then its neighbors carve it up?

Habsburgs controlled much of OTL Switzerland as late as 1400, just have them keep beating the Swiss and consolidate there.

Thing is, that was after a century of steadily losing ground against the Swiss- most of the Waldstätten had been Habsburg fiefs as well initially.

I think the best shot is to have one out of Zurich and Bern stay Catholic rather than going Protestant- you'd then have a near equal power balance between the two denominations and even OTL there was a lot of effective paralysis and sectarian tensions. The potential for everything to then fall apart completely is greatly amplified at that point.

I've misread the title as "Make Swaziland Disappear" XD

Also I'd say the French Revolutionary Wars/early Napoleonic Wars would be the last good bet. If the Lemanic Republic survives (and maybe incorporates Fribourg as well), then maybe the French partition the remainder between e.g. the Cisalpine Republic and maybe a TTL-exclusive sister republic in the southwest of Germany (Republic of Swabia) and that division then sticks even after the wars are over and the old order is reinstated.
