AHC: Make Ken Dryden Prime Minister of Canada

Your challenge, should you chose to accept it, is to make legendary Montreal Canadiens Goaltender Ken Dryden, Prime Minister of Canada, with any POD after he retires from Hockey in 1979. However, unlike other challenges that involve getting an athlete elected to high office, this one should be easier on the grounds that Dryden actually did go into politics, serving as a MP for the Liberal Party from 2004 to 2011. In fact, he even ran for the Liberal Party Leadership in 2006. You can use that as your starting point, or go back further. Make it so...

Hmmm, very interesting, although I think it would be very difficult.

While Dryden is very intelligent and well educated, he is pretty much a non-entity when it comes to politics. Yes, he ran for the Liberal leadership, but it wasn't a success at all. He just doesn't have anything but his hockey career.

Now that being said, if during the Summit Series, he gave a speech about the horrors of the Soviet Union and how they treated their people poorly, etc., he might be able to make a name for himself as a young, budding politico. He needs to be remembered for more than just hockey.

It also might help if he weren't a Liberal :D...

You need to have him during the 80's start becoming politically active and a well known on the political front and in the community.

He gets elected in 2004 in a safe seat with the Liberal party.

During the Liberal party election main players start attacking each other and many of the delegates started looking for another route.

After the debates and Michael Ignatieff is seen as too stiff and many of the undeclared delegates that had supported him moved away.

In the first round to everyones surprise there is is 3 way tie for third, Dryden, Dion and Kennedy. Dryden the biggest winner of the 3.

After the first round Brison, Volpe and Findlay all with draw, they release their delegates after a very public argument between Rae and Ignatieff is caught, that was thought to be behind closed doors. The election is becoming a mess. (1)

In the second ballot, the surprise was that Kennedy was eliminated off the ballot (major POD it was Dryden in the second round)

Later in what is call the major upset of the convention, Kennedy supports Dryden.

The Dryden camp starts to get some major momentum. Rae is seen to have too much baggage from his time as Premier and the argument with Ignatieff did not help both.

In the third ballot Rae is eliminated, he releases his delegates and does not say who he will vote for, he is seen chatting with Dryden.

The Forth Ballot is the shocker as Ignatieff is eliminated and it is down to Dion and Dryden.

The Final Ballot, Dryden wins by 8 votes. There were 3 counts and each verified that.

(1 - Opps, a CTV camera team went through the wrong door on the way to a quick interview with Brison and caught the argument, it was on the news with in 5 minutes)

- I will work on part 2 later
