AHC: Make Ed Wood's films good

This may be more appropriately in ASB.:p

Edward D. Wood, Jr., writer & director of such cult classics as "Glen or Glenda" & "Plan 9 From Outer Space", is "universally acclaimed as the worst director of all time anywhere" & has been described as having "boundless enthusiasm & absolutely no talent".

So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to make his films good. Not just "cult watchable" good, but genuinely good.

FYI, I'm not a fan. I think Wood's films are garbage, & even the biopic about him was only marginally watchable. I have nothing invested. I'm merely curious if it could be done.

How you achieve it, except for "morphic twins" & such tricks, is up to you.

Ed Wood, early in his career, meets a successful comedic actor who convinces him that comedy is the way to go. The Leslie Nielsen-type comedy is born early, and instead of trying to act serious, his movies done with a comedic bent.

Using "Plan 9 From Outer Space" as an example, since it's the only one I know (and even it I haven't seen):

The movie opesn, instead of however it does OTL, with an alien dressed ina weird costume bickering with his superiors about the other 8 plans her has submitted. Superiors who just happen to stutter. So when one says, "This plan is soaked in incompetence" the alien alien takes is s "This plan is soak in competence."

The line "such and such has been murdered...and someone's responsible" sounds like it *had to* come from a comedy. The fact it comes from a movie that tried to be serious is incredibly disconcerting. However, give Ed Wood a desire to do comedy, and you wind up with...

"...murdered, and someone's responsible."
"You're sure murder can't happen by accident?"
"Yes, I sure; I know murder like the back of my hand." (Glances at it) "Funny; never noticed that there before. Anyway, we have to find this someone."
"The alien's name is Someone?"

Then this good alien, who si trying to help the Earthlings and whose name is XZPQLJX (but they decide to pronounce is "Someone") is suspected. ("We had to call him something." "But you didn't, you called him Someone." "That's true. but if I tried to say his name phonetically, it would sound like this." (Gives the raspberries.)

Audiences at first aren't sure what to think before seeing the film, but they love the idea that - with all the movies around about big, scary aliens - someone is willing to make fun of them and let them laugh. Ed Wood is hailed as a genius, along with whoever the comedic star is who helps him.

I think Ed Wood's film are good already, Plan 9 From Outer space is hilarious

I agree, considering his budget and circumstances, he could have made some well scripted but completely forgettable b-movies, or the classics that he did make.

Apparently either Plan 9 or Bride of the Monster made a profit anyways.

I always feel these kinds of threads are silly because they're so subjective. Even with general agreement on certain films being bad or good, different people have different tastes. My standard of a good movie is pretty low - low enough to include some films people here would desire to wring my neck for liking.

Asking to make certain films more financially successful would be much more interesting, because it could involve in some cases making films even worse.
